Kids’ plate: Walking tacos

On the plate: Plain taco beef, crushed corn chips, grated cheese and avocado slices; tomatoes and lime left off.

Make it a game: Eating straight out of the bag with a fork feels like a campout. Pick a chip crunch and listen for it.

Set it aside at step 3, before the grown-ups’ sauce or spice goes on.

Why it works

  • Celiac disease: Corn chips and a homemade spice blend keep this gluten-free with nothing to hide.

Celiac check: watch for hidden gluten in soy sauce, stock, malt vinegar and seasoning blends, and oats that aren’t certified. Gluten gives food ideas, not medical advice: always check labels for allergens and cross-contact.
