Kids’ plate: Crispy shrimp and veggie tempura
On the plate: Plain shrimp and sweet potato tempura, a small bowl of the dipping sauce, green beans on the side.
Make it a game: Crunch test: take a bite and listen, whose tempura crunches the loudest?
Set it aside at step 5, before the grown-ups’ sauce or spice goes on.
Why it works
- Celiac disease: A rice flour and cornstarch batter with gluten-free tamari in the dipping sauce, so the whole plate is gluten-free.
- Kid (4–12): Mild, crunchy and hand-held, with the dipping sauce separate so each bite is as bold as he wants.
Celiac check: watch for hidden gluten in soy sauce, stock, malt vinegar and seasoning blends, and oats that aren’t certified. Gluten gives food ideas, not medical advice: always check labels for allergens and cross-contact.
