Kids’ plate: Shepherd’s Pie
On the plate: Soft lamb, carrot and zucchini under mashed sweet potato.
Make it a game: Make a little hill of sweet potato over the lamb, then look for the colorful vegetables underneath. The top can be a cozy blanket for the lamb.
Set it aside at step 4, before the grown-ups’ sauce or spice goes on.
Why it works
- Autoimmune protocol (AIP): Lamb, sweet potato, carrot, zucchini, olive oil and thyme; no grains, dairy or nightshades.
- Hashimoto's thyroiditis: No soy, seaweed or gluten-containing grains; the topping is sweet potato.
- Pregnant: Nothing in the pie is raw, unpasteurised or alcoholic.
- Toddler (1–3): Soft mashed sweet potato with tender lamb, carrot and zucchini.
- Kid (4–12): A mild, familiar pie with savory lamb filling and a soft sweet-potato top.
AIP check: watch for nightshade spices (paprika, chili, cayenne), seed spices (cumin, coriander seed), seed oils and hidden sugar. Gluten gives food ideas, not medical advice: always check labels for allergens and cross-contact.
